What is Authentic Movement?

This practice is done with attention directed inward, eyes closed, with no music, although sounds may arise from your internal impulse. You move in the presence of a witness who holds the container for your experience. This non-judgmental, compassionate witness helps support you in nurturing your own inner witness, distinct from the highly developed and habitual inner critic. It is a time for you to deeply listen to your own desires and impulses, free from the constraints of shoulds and have-to’s. There is no prescribed movement. It can include anything from complete stillness to vigorous movement through space. Through following your own internal impulse to move or be still, you will be led on an amazing journey. Open the door and see what arises…

Authentic movement can be used as:

Contemplative practice: create a bridge between the conscious and the unconscious: questions, answers, inquiries, discoveries.

Physical practice: Stretch, rest, jump, explore, sensation, quality, rythme, bones, muscles, shapes, connections.

Spiritual practice: movement as meditation, prayer, healing, celebration, insight, embracing the unknown, the unfolding mystery.

Artistic practice: access play, creativity, novelty, free blocks, renew creative desire.

Access your truth through
movement and stillness.

Creativity and inner reflection arise through
listening to the wisdom in your body.

Old and new stories unfold.

Questions. Answers. Inquiries. Mysteries.
Healing. Celebration. Connections. Sensations.
Presence. Play. Acceptance. Unfolding.

The body is the physical aspect of the personality and movement is the personality made visible. - Mary Starks Whitehouse
